  1. 1. Check eligibility and the sponsor's status

    The family member in Germany (sponsor) must hold a valid residence title (e.g. Blue Card, settlement permit). Usually applies to spouses and minor children.

    Tip: For Blue Card/highly qualified holders the spouse language requirement MAY be waived — check exceptions.

  2. 2. Assess the A1 language requirement (for spouses)

    Spouse reunification usually requires basic German (A1). Exceptions: Blue Card spouses, recognised skilled workers, health grounds. Goethe/telc A1 certificate is accepted.

  3. 3. Prepare documents (apostille + translation)

    Obtain marriage/birth certificates in international form, with apostille and certified translation if needed. Also proof of the sponsor's income and adequate housing.

  4. 4. Book the national (D) visa appointment

    Book a national visa appointment at the German mission in Türkiye. The appointment is FREE — beware of third-party 'VIP' services.

  5. 5. Submit application and give biometrics

    Submit the form and documents at the appointment and provide biometrics. The mission may seek approval from the German immigration office.

    If approved, travel to Germany; after arrival obtain the residence permit from the local immigration office.
