Recognition of Professional Qualifications

Step-by-step overview for recognising your Türkiye-earned professional qualification in Germany.

Steps

Estimated total: ~125 days

  1. 1. Check whether the profession is regulated

For regulated professions (doctor, nursing, teacher) recognition is MANDATORY. For many others it is voluntary but useful for employers. Search your profession in the 'Anerkennungs-Finder'.

Tip: Regulated = recognition required to work under the title. Non-regulated = you may work without recognition.

  2. 2. Find the competent authority

The responsible body differs by profession and state (e.g. IHK FOSA, state health authority). The Anerkennungs-Finder shows the competent authority.

  3. 3. Prepare and translate documents

Gather diplomas, transcripts, professional certificates and work references; have them translated by a sworn translator and apostilled if required.

    Required documents
    • Diploma / qualification certificate
    • Transcript
    • Work references
    • Passport / ID

Tip: For a university degree, check its rating in anabin (H+ / H+/-).

  4. 4. Submit the recognition application

File the recognition application with your documents at the competent authority. Fees are usually €100–600; funding programmes may exist for low income.

    Required documents
    • Completed application form
  5. 5. Assessment and any compensation measure

The authority compares your qualification with the German reference profession. For 'substantial differences' an adaptation course or knowledge test may be required.

Tip: By law the decision should be issued within 3 months (once documents are complete).

    ~90 days
  6. 6. Recognition decision

Receive the full or partial recognition decision. Full = equivalence to the German qualification; partial = full recognition after compensation.
